Brixton is one of those London suburbs that ten to fifteen years ago had a rather unsavoury reputation. These days though it is all changed and it is more well known for its vibrant nightlife and exotic markets.

Visit the market that starts next to the station and runs the length of Electric Avenue, for a fine collection of exotic fruit, vegetables and jewellery. Lovers of Caribbean food should head straight to Bamboula in Acre Lane, where the food, ambience and atmosphere are 100% authentic.

Brixton is awash with bars and trendy clubs, it is a great place to go out and is very popular with Londoners. The Bug Bar in the Crypt of St. Matthew’s Church is a very popular bar/ preclub spot, which should be checked out. The popular Brixton Academy has been one of the capital’s leading live music venues since 1929, and continues to be a firm favourite.
